To Mt. Lemmon In Style

After enjoying a mini-cruise in the Super Snake on Sat. morning with a run to Catalina with the So. AZ Mustang Club having breakfast at Claire's, we decided to take the Cobra out for a run on Sunday morning.

We ended up at Mt. Lemmon. It was a beautiful morning and the temperature up at the top probably in the low 70s. Being early in the morning the traffic was light (except for all the bicyclists). It was such a pleasant drive through the tree lined road with the refreshing air. Coming down off the mountain though, it kept getting hotter and hotter, so by the time we got home, we were glad to park the Cobra in the garage and go into the air conditioned house.

It's A Super Snake!!!

Well, finally after 10 months we picked up our 2014 Mustang GT500 this last Friday at Shelby American in Las Vegas. This GT500 has turned into a wide body 850HP monster - Super Snake.

We flew to LV Friday morning getting in at 7am. We drove out of Shelby at 8:45am on our drive back to Tucson. Because of a break-in for the new 3.73 rear gear, we needed to stop after 25 miles and let it cool down for about an hour - and to do this 3 times.

The pictures just don't give you the full effect of the car, but with the wide body, the rubber under this beast is huge at 345s x 20" on the back. And the sound is a loud rumble. Enough to frighten anyone.

Our first stop on our way home to let the new gear box cool was the Boulder Dam. We played tourist and walked around and took some pictures. Needless to say, I didn't bring along my camera so these shots are from my phone.

After another 25-30 miles we found this little dive of a cafe - Rosie's Den Cafe - where we stopped and had a salad and hamburger. It was actually very good.
Our next stop was in Kingman, where we went to the Route 66 Museum and the Mohave Museum to get our history lessons for the day. Then it was off to Tucson with no other stops except at the airport where Jim dropped me off to pick up the Lincoln where we had parked it that morning.
After we got the Super Snake home the super charger was making a loud hissing noise that just didn't sound right, so decided we better not drive it to Cars & Coffee Sat. morning. So we took the Cobra and had a great morning talking with all the other car enthusiasts. Chuck, Kim and family showed up with their Corvette, so got to visit with them also. Another fun packed weekend filled with cars. (I need to buy another case of Quick Detailer to polish all these prize possessions.)

Spectacular Fireworks

Last evening (the 4th) we watched the fireworks over the harbor from our room terrace. One of the launching barges was right off the hotel in the bay, then another barge was more west in the bay and I believe a couple were more east from here, which the show was synchronized between all of them. Here are a few shots of the 20+ minute show (except the first picture was the sunset while we were awaiting the main show.)

This morning after breakfast, we drove to Mission Bay and road our bikes around the permitter of the bay approx. 17 miles. It took us a couple of hours because you are unable to pick up any speed because of all the other people on the path, plus we took a few unwanted detours because we didn't know the way. There are sections of great pathway, then it just stops and you need to figure how to get to the next section. Even though we had a map, it didn't help, but there were some nice people along the way that helped us out. It was a pleasant ride with this great weather.

It's in the low 80s today with light breezes. We are now sitting on our terrace again looking out on the bay filled with boats and watching the people in the boats in the marina. It's a great spot.

We have a couple of beers on ice just waiting for the appropriate hour to approach. The complementary hors d'oeuvres in the Club Lounge will come into play after we enjoy a glass of wine also from our terrace.

It's back to Tucson bright and early tomorrow morning so we will hopefully miss a lot of the holiday traffic and get back home before the afternoon monsoons hit (ha ha). We've enjoyed our impromptu trip even with the mass of people that came for the holiday weekend.

Happy 4th of July!

This July 4th we find ourselves (totally unplanned) in beautiful San Diego. Jim came home yesterday from work about 2:30 when I suggested we cool off in San Diego. We were on the road by 3:30. Arrived at the hotel on Harbor Island at a little after 9:30 after a fairly easy drive (meaning not much traffic).

Here is what greeted us out our balcony when we got to our room - Moon Over The Marina.

This is what the view looks like during the day.

The people in San Diego really like to celebrate the 4th - every park and all of the shorelines along the bay are filled with families and groups setting up tents, getting the BBQs going, the kids playing games and settling in for the fireworks over the bay later tonight. We brought our bikes along and went for a ride this morning after our walk. Rode about 10 miles dodging people all along the way. I've never see so many people around this area. We took a rest at the far end of Shelter Island before heading back to the hotel.

We enjoyed a nice lunch at a deli at the marina by the hotel, then walked down towards the downtown waterfront approx 2.5 miles (one way, we still needed to return). The walk tired us out, so needed to rest while looking at this beautiful scenery.

The marina is sure active today and as the evening wears on, I'm sure a few more parties will be enjoyed on the boats at the docks.

Tomorrow another bike ride and just enjoy this beautiful 79 degree weather.
