Trip Home

We were hoping to finish with Newell on Wed., but as usual it always takes longer than expected. So had time to do a little more walking. Here is another old building in Commerce.

We finally got on the road at 12:30pm on Thurs planning to make it to Amarillo. Of course we had the coach washed, so created all this rain on our trip. It seems as if the road always goes right through the  middle of these storm cells.
We had sun, rain and rainbows.
Even though the sky was so black, the rain wasn't too bad.
Yes we went right through the middle of this rain.
We got into Amarillo at 7:30pm, fueled up and parked at the Oasis RV Park for the night. Got up early the next morning and was on the road at 5am (Tucson time) for a 750 mile trip to Tucson. Got to the shop around 4:20 after a uneventful but raining in spots (especially at Benson where we experienced at downpour) trip. Got the coach put away and was home by 5:30, always glad to be back but looking forward to the next trip.

Passing Time

The coach is in the service bay getting worked on and they have completed many of the items we had for them to repair, but still a little ways to go yet before they are complete. Yesterday we discovered that the front passenger tire had a big bulge in it, so added replacing the front tires to our list. It's day 2 of sitting around waiting for them to finish. Yesterday we took a 5 mile walk down into Miami and stopped at Walmart to pick up a few items.

Today we went for a 2 mile walk and found this vintage gas station turned into Dairy King in Commerce, which is just north of Miami. At lunch we walked back down there to enjoy a great cheeseburger, fries and a whole lot of local history from the owner. Of course, this place is right on old Route 66.

Walking through downtown Commerce (a whole 5 blocks long) we found this big building the size of the whole city block that is a flea market.
It was just rows and rows of junk (sorry - antiques). Yea there was a lot of junk, but there were some nice old pieces also. I think there was a little bit of everything in that place.
Even an old wood burning stove.
Did you know that Mickey Mantle grew up in Commerce, OK?

Hopefully they will finish up on the RV tomorrow so we can start heading back on Thursday. Yesterday the weather was beautiful in the low 80s with a bit of humidity. But today it's overcast, in the mid 80s and humid, so not so pleasant. It's calling for possible thunderstorms, but so far none. Maybe later today.

Repair Time

We took off Friday afternoon for our every other year trip to get the RV serviced. The first leg of the trip brought us to Las Cruces for overnight, then on the our favorite restaurant!

The Big Texan in Amarillo.
This time we were able to get a table in the balcony for a view of the whole restaurant.

Then on to Miami, OK to get all the issues taken care of on the RV. We even accumulated more issues on our drive there. I don't think there is a time where everything works properly (well, life would be boring if it did). Hopefully we will only be here a couple of days to get everything fixed, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
